Immediate impact with new Beaverton SBHC

Recently, a Beaverton High School student came into the school-based health center (SBHC) with a cold. Staff asked a few probing questions and discovered she was homeless, with no family and no health insurance. In just a few days time, working with the BHS office staff, the operator of the clinic, Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center (VGMHC), was able to get the student enrolled in the Oregon Health Plan. Now, she has access to not only medical and dental care, but mental health services as well. "Just with that student, the difference we've made in the rest of her school life is huge," says Center Director Lacey Beaty.
