Youth from all around Oregon joined us on February 25th at the Oregon State Capitol for School Health Advocacy Day 2020. Students facilitated 25 meetings with their legislators to discuss the importance of school-based health services, and we were very excited to welcome Governor Kate Brown as our keynote speaker.  The Governor spoke to youth about important policy initiatives, and how she started her career as an advocate herself.  Students also had the opportunity to hear about different ways that people advocate whether as a career or through volunteer involvement from Esther Kim, Strategist at the Oregon Health Equity Alliance and Aldo Solano, Governor's Census Project Manager.  Esther and Also talked about their current careers, the paths they took to get there, and what adversity and inspiration they have experienced along the way. They encouraged youth to advocate for themselves today and everyday.

Governor Speaks Small.jpgOur annual School Health Advocacy Day is the only youth-driven advocacy event that supports school-based health services in Oregon. School Health Advocacy Day provides an opportunity for youth from across Oregon to visit the Capitol, meet their legislators, and advocate for the importance of school-based health services in their communities.

The theme for this year's event was "Don't Hesitate, Advocate". OSBHA Student Health Advocates led workshops teaching students how to call and write to their legislators.

Thank you to our 2019 School Health Advocacy Day sponsors for making this event possible.
