New Funding Available for Services to Uninsured Kids

You are here

Updated 7/13/16: NEW Deadline for both RFGPs is August 5, 2016 and the archived webinars are available here.

In 2015 the Oregon Latino Health Coalition led the Oregon Health Equity Alliance, including OSBHA, to advocate for funding for kids that remain uninsured despite healthcare reform. This work resulted in a $10 million allocation to the Safety Net Capacity Grant Program within the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). Now, OHA has released a grant opportunity for Safety Net Clinics, including school-based health centers, to ensure that children who are not eligible for federal or state publicly funded health insurance programs (e.g., the Oregon Health Plan) have access to and receive primary care services. The funding is also to ensure that Safety Net Clinics have adequate capacity to meet the needs of this vulnerable and underserved population. More information can be found in the State ORPIN system under Opportunity Number 4183.

An informational webinar will take place on July 12 from 8:00am-9:00am and you can register here.

Funding is also available to organizations to do outreach to and educate racial and ethnic minorities, with an emphasis on children that are not eligible for federal programs (e.g., Medicaid), and assist them in enrolling and accessing services that will be provided by the safety net clinics awarded grant funding. Organizations contracted under this RFGP must have demonstrated cultural and linguistic competence and experience in meaningful engagement of and effective outreach to affected communities. More information can be found in the State ORPIN system under Opportunity Number 4198.

An informational webinar on the outreach grants will take place on July 12 from 10:00am-11:00am and you can register here.
