In 2013, the Oregon School-Based Health Alliance completed a needs assessment of School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) in Oregon, in partnership with Kaiser Permanente Northwest (KPNW). The survey identified behavioral health services as one of the largest areas of need in communities across the state.
KPNW seeks to increase the capacity of School-Based Health Centers to improve the health of young people, increase care to vulnerable communities, and promote the full participation of SBHCs in the region's health care system.The funding priorities are:

KPNW is able to fund organizations in the following counties in their service area:
Oregon: Clackamas, Columbia, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Washington, Yamhill, and parts of Columbia, Hood River, Linn and Benton counties.
Washington: Clark, Cowlitz, and parts of Wahkiakum and Skamania counties

KPNW seeks to increase the capacity of School-Based Health Centers to improve the health of young people, increase care to vulnerable communities, and promote the full participation of SBHCs in the region's health care system.The funding priorities are:
- Capacity Building Projects: For communities with no School-Based Health Centers, funds will support planning and development of new SBHCs in collaboration with local partners. Grants are limited to 18 months with a maximum award of $40,000 per site.
- Behavioral Health Projects: For communities with existing SBHCs, funding will support behavioral health projects that increase the capacity of SBHCs to address mental health and substance abuse services among school-age children and youth including prevention, treatment, and integration. Grants are limited to three years for $50,000 per year for a total of $150,000 per project.
