Ready to Advocate? School Health Advocacy Day

Oregon School-Based Health Alliance's 2021 School Health Advocacy Day, like a lot of things, looked a little different this year.  Youth from all around Oregon joined us virtually on February 23rd to learn about Advocacy, and meet virtually with each other and their local legislators. Students facilitated 26 meetings with their legislators to discuss the importance of school-based health services, learned about elevator pitches, and why they are the most important advocate for school health services. They talked about current legislation, and played online trivia games about School- Based Health Centers.

Our annual School Health Advocacy Day is the only youth-driven advocacy event that supports school-based health services in Oregon. School Health Advocacy Day provides an opportunity for youth from across Oregon to visit the Capitol, meet their legislators, and advocate for the importance of school-based health services in their communities.  While we weren't able to physically visit the Capitol together this year, we learned a lot about how to make an impact from your community, and that there are many ways to make sure the voices of youth are heard.

The Oregon School-Based Health Alliance also wishes to extend a big thank-you to the sponsors that have made this event possible.
